Aches, pain and injuries
What is it that you love, and have stopped doing because of pain or injury? Is it tennis, playing with the grandkids, gardening, hiking, sport or dancing?
We have worked with people suffering from sports injuries, traumatic injuries such as those caused by car accidents or workplace injuries, pain caused by overuse or strain, office based injuries from sitting at desks and computers. Parents of young children suffering from back, neck and shoulder tension. Frozen shoulder, elbow and knee pain and post operative pain.
Name your pain, we have treated it!
How we can help with aches, pain and injuries
As with all conditions at Happy Laughter we begin with an assessment of your condition and overall health. We will work with you to identify your treatment goals and measures of treatment success; we then develop a treatment plan for you based on your assessment and individual treatment goals.
With many Acupuncture techniques at our disposal and experience in treating a wide range of muscular – skeletal conditions, we are able to confidently develop the right treatment strategy for your individual condition.
At Happy Laughter, the style of Acupuncture we most commonly use for the treatment of injury and pain does not actually involve placing needles where the source of the pain is; meaning there is low to-no risk of aggravation of your injury. This style of Acupuncture is called distal Acupuncture (aka away from the site of injury – non-local) and relies on the amazing connections our brains and bodies can make between the different parts of our body. For example, we may needle the wrist in order to treat an ankle!
At Happy Laughter we are also skilled in the use of electro-Acupuncture. During this style of treatment needles are placed in the Acupuncture points and then small cables are attached which transmit a low electrical current through the acupuncture points. This is often experienced as a trickling or tapping/buzzing sensation, and should be experienced as painless. It is utilised to enhance the bodies ability to heal by providing antioxidants to the body and working with the electrical charge already present within the cells. Electro-Acupuncture is safe when performed by a knowledgeable practitioner.
Alternative vibration and laser therapy
We also have complementary technology available to enhance your treatment when required. At Happy Laughter we have a Rapid Release device RRT-Pro 2, which is a device utilising vibration technology. The Rapid Release device is painless (although it can be strong), and uses the vibration to release tension in areas of pain or discomfort, and break up scar tissue which can assist in the healing process.
In addition to the Rapid Release device, at Happy Laughter we also have a low level laser (Physiolaser) which uses a special light frequency (and photons) to assist the cells and tissues to repair. Laser Therapy can be utilised for many conditions including muskular – skeletal injuries, muscle tension and pain conditions. At Happy Laughter we utilise these technologies to complement and enhance the results of Acupuncture Therapy treatment.
What to expect from your treatment

With the Acupuncture treatment style that we use, in most cases you will notice a reduction in your level of discomfort during the session. Sometimes the discomfort will disappear entirely. The level of pain and discomfort reduction and the duration that it lasts will depend upon: how responsive you are to the treatment, what your condition is, and how long you have had it for. Every individual responds differently; our aim is always to get you the highest reduction of discomfort and the longest duration of symptom relief as possible, from each individual treatment.
Acupuncture works cumulatively. The more treatments you have the quicker you will heal, as will your experience of symptom reduction and relief also resolve quicker. Over the first few weeks of treatment it is common for people to require between 1-3 treatments per week to a) reduce your level of pain and discomfort to a more comfortable level whilst healing takes place, b) desensitize the bodies often heightened response to pain and discomfort, c) build the cumulative impact of the treatment. As you begin to experience longer lasting benefits from your treatment, your treatment frequency can be reduced to weekly and less frequently as you are getting increased duration of relief between treatments.
In cases of chronic pain or injury, we recommend maintenance treatment in order to ensure the long term resolution of your symptoms, and to keep your body functioning at its optimum. Maintenance frequency depends upon the individual, but it is generally between fortnightly to once every 6 weeks.
How often should I have treatment?
Treatment frequency will depend entirely on your individual response to the treatment and the nature of your condition. At Happy Laughter we generally recommend a series of 3 – 4 treatments spaced over a 2 week period in order to determine how you respond to the treatment. This allows us to determine your optimum treatment frequency.
We also work with people supported by WorkSafe and TAC. A gap fee applies.
